One thing that sets Global knives apart from every other single knife brand, is that in all their years of very successful trading, they have only in fact manufactured one single series of knives! Production of the classic Global range commenced in 1985 and 27 years later is still going and growing strongly. Despite first extending and then totally re-building the factory, and substantial investment in new technology, Global’s production capacity has always been filled months in advance. This has thwarted their natural desire to build on the unparalleled success by developing new models and ranges.
Finally the opportunity has arisen for Global to start work on a BRAND NEW model range. We proudly introduce to you Global Sai. This series is aimed at the true knife aficionado or professional chef. It can only be produced in relatively modest quantities and we are privileged in being one of only three countries in the world which will witness the introduction of these knives. The Global Sai range has been developed by Komin Yamada who also designed the first Global knife. Komin tells us that,’ The Global knife became, and is still, a truly Global product and a design classic that has found its way into practically every food lovers home throughout the world’. But the world has changed since Komin Yamada first designed Global knives and the new Sai range has been designed to reflect that. The brief given to Komin Yamada was to design a new range of Global knives and his starting point was the world today, the contemporary zeitgeist.
Global Sai have 3 exceptional new features:
- Stylish, ergonomic handles. This brand new handle design, using Global’s experience has been designed in consultation with many chefs and knife experts to allow the utmost comfort and safety in use. The Global Sai range has 7 dots along the handle instead of the fully dotted handles of the classic Global range. This is to represent the traditional Japanese bushido- way of the warrior where there are 7 virtues of the samurai.
- 3-ply special steel. The blade material consists of a central core material of substantial hardness to keep an extremely hard edge, being surrounded by layers of softer, corrosion resistant stainless steel. The outer edges of the blade are made from the same steel as the handles making the forge between blade and handle even stronger.
- Hammered blade finish. The special individually hammered finish not only looks stylish but also is designed so that the small hollows create air pockets between chopped food assisting and allowing food to pass across the blade without sticking.
